How to keep prying eyes off your Android device by hiding apps
Your Android phone is filled with your most personal information, so it’s important to protect it from prying eyes if you lose your device or someone steals it. There are two ways you can do this: by using Android’s built-in security features or by installing third-party software to encrypt files and hide files without rooting your phone. Either way, these tips will help protect your privacy and keep the details of your life away from those who don’t need to see them.
Why Hiding or Deactivating isn’t enough
Hiding or deactivating an app is not a good enough solution because the person you want to hide it from can just go into the settings and find it again. You want a more permanent solution that prevents them from accessing the app even if they know how to find it.
Step 1: Go through your list of installed apps and find what you want to hide
If you’re looking for a way to hide certain apps on an Android phone without rooting, it’s actually quite simple. In order to do so, go through your list of installed apps and find what you want to hide. For example, if you don’t want people snooping through your Facebook app, simply delete the app from your phone and then go into Settings > Apps and select show system apps. From here, scroll down until you see the Facebook app and click on it.
Step 2: Open Settings > Developer Options (If no Developer Options, tap 7 times on Build Number in About Phone.)
1. Open Settings > Developer Options (If no Developer options, tap 7 times on Build Number in About Phone.) 2. Scroll down and tap the Show All checkbox 3. If you want to hide an app from all users, tap the gear icon next to it 4. Tap Don’t show anything 5. To unhide an app, simply repeat these steps, but switch Don’t show anything with Show everything.
Step 3: Now under Developer Options, find Draw Over Other Apps. Turn it off
If you’re worried about someone trying to find out what’s on your phone and getting access to all of your personal information, this is a good way to stop that from happening. You can also do other things like resetting the phone or turning on airplane mode if you’re in a situation where you don’t want anyone snooping around.
Step 4: Navigate back one page to App Info Page for the app you want hidden
The app you want to hide is now selected, so click the Hide button. You’ll see a confirmation page that reads: This will remove the icon from the app drawer and prevent it from appearing on any home screens. To continue, tap OK. If you change your mind, tap Cancel at any time.
Once a phone has been locked down with these settings in place, no one will be able to access anything on the phone without first knowing the password for it.
Step 5: Scroll down and select Hide from launcher. This will prevent it from showing up on your home screen.
5. Scroll down and select Hide from launcher. This will prevent it from showing up on your home screen. This will disable the app’s notifications.
The app icon will disappear from the list of recent applications, but you can always find it in the App Drawer or via a system search, if you know what you’re looking for.:
